The Exhibition by the Department of Space Design Students was selected for Seoul Design Foundation Collaborative Exhibition for the Second Consecutive Year

The Department of Space Design was selected for Seoul Design Foundation collaborative exhibition for the second consecutive year and exhibited its graduation work, “PUSH KEYSTONE: Enter Your Identity”, at Dongdaemun Design Palaza (DDP) from November 8th to 16th.

The Department of Space Design was the first department to hold a collaborative exhibition at Dongdaemun Design Palaza (DDP) last year. The exhibition “PUSH KEYSTONE: Enter Your Identity” featured 43 works including space designs, furniture design works by 39 undergraduate students in senior year of college and photospot works by sophomore and junior students. The exhibition analyzed problems arising from the access of advanced society from various perspectives and sought solutions to solve social problems spatially.
Introduction to the exhibition
KEYSTONE is a term that refers to the key stone for the maintenance and support of the Roman arch stone structure. Each arch structure has its own KEYSTONE fits its shape. KEYSTONE was used as a symbolic medium to feature the spatial answers to social problems happening at present.
Jo Ah-ram, 4th grader in the Department of Space Design, who is the chair of the exhibition preparation committee, said, “We have prepared to show the speciality of our Space Design students’ works to be displayed in DDP, like Keystone, which also defines the nature of the entire space.” He also said, “We ask for your attention to this DDP cooperation exhibition, where visitors can have a new time to reflect on their own Keystone as a participant in the exhibition after viewing.”
Jeong Eun-seok, a professor of the Department of Space Design, said, “This exhibition shows the results of students’ continuous efforts to solve social problems spatially. I’m happy to have been selected for the Seoul Design Foundation collaborative exhibition for the second consecutive years following last year, and I appreciate the students and advice from professors.”
The Department of Space Design at Sangmyung University is the first major in Korea to establish a four-year term indoor design education program and has won more than 50 contests, including the grand prize every year. Research papers by space design students were published in the International Journal. Space design of Sangmyung University led to an agreement with the city of Cheonan to discover public design projects last year.
