With about 50 students from Sangmyung University's College of Culture and Arts participating in the mural painting program conducted by Pocheon City Volunteer Center, it was held at Seungjin Civilian-Military Win-Win Welfare Center in Seongdong-ri, Yeongjung-myeon for four nights and five days from July 1 (Mon) to 5 (Fri). The mural painting project, which was carried out as part of rural volunteer activities, was designed to decorate the fence of the "Seungjin Civilian-Military Win-Win Welfare Center," which remodeled idle facilities of the Ministry of National Defense into open facilities for residents.Seungjin Civilian-Military Win-Win Welfare Center is the first case in Korea that the Ministry of National Defense's idle facilities have been remodeled as resident-open facilities through cooperation between the public and private forces.
Seungjin Civilian-Military Win-Win Welfare Center
The Seungjin Civilian-Military Win-Win Welfare Center is the first case in Korea that the Ministry of National Defense's idle facilities have been remodeled as residents' open facilities through cooperation between the public and private forces. It was established to alleviate conflicts between civilians and soldiers in Pocheon City, where large-scale military facilities are concentrated, and to help revitalize the local economy. It was built as a comprehensive welfare center that can be used by military personnel and local residents such as sports and welfare facilities including a park, golf course, futsal course, and civilian-military job training center.
Successful Volunteer Work
Students majoring in design at Sangmyung University's College of Culture and Arts completed the mural by drawing and sketching themselves and participating in coloring work.

Yoo Jae-min (student representative of the College of Culture and Arts) of Sangmyung University, who participated in the mural painting volunteer work, said, "I think I have a good opportunity to use the summer vacation to spread the talents of my classmates," adding, "I will inform my friends and visit Pocheon City again, which I have learned anew through this activity."
Park Kyung-sik, director of the Pocheon Volunteer Center, said, "I would like to thank the students of Sangmyung University's College of Culture and Arts for practicing talent donation and creating the Seungjin Civilian-Military Win-Win Welfare Center beautifully despite the hot and humid weather due to the rainy season. This space with a beautifully changed wall mural will be a place to entertain residents for a long time."

This volunteer work provided a meaningful experience beyond just talent donation. Students and local residents harmonized together and had a precious time to learn from each other. In particular, the colorful murals that filled the walls greatly changed the atmosphere of rural areas. Not only are the murals beautiful in themselves, but they are also expected to serve as new life for the residents. Through the murals, the residents felt a sense of pride in their village and will give a positive impression to visitors. As such, this volunteer work made an important contribution to strengthening the solidarity of the community.
