College of Convergence Engineering

College of Biochemical Engineering

The College of Biochemical Engineering was newly established by combining the Department of Biotechnology, the Department of Chemical Energy Engineering, and the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science from 2017.

The College of Biotechnology performs the research and education of the biotechnology field such as the development of new medical and healthcare biotechnology, bio information analysis, genetic engineering, genomic-protein analysis and manipulation, marine biotechnology, development of molecular ecology environment assessment technology, and the development of bioresource use technology.

Next, the Department of Chemical Energy Engineering gives education concerning the overall knowledge and technology of energy conversion and storage based on advanced nano and molecular engineering, aiming to nurture competent human resources who can solve the depletion of global energy, climate change, and environmental problems. Finally, the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science educates and nurtures human resources of advanced technology who will lead the future-oriented chemical industry through the development of alternative energy, highly functional matters, and eco-friendly materials to solve the depletion of natural resources and environmental pollution facing humanity.

College of Biotechnology

Biotechnology is drawing attention as a core academic field to solve food, energy, and disease problems which are the challenges of humanity in the 21st century. In response, the College of Biotechnology performs the research and education of the biotechnology field such as the development of new medical and healthcare biotechnology, bio information analysis, genetic engineering, genomic-protein analysis and manipulation, marine biotechnology, development of molecular ecology environment assessment technology, and the development of bioresource use technology.

By carrying out future-oriented, demand-centered, customized education, this College aims to cultivate professionals who will play leading roles in the biotechnology field and national research institutes after graduation.

To increase the employment opportunities for students, the College is strengthening pragmatic knowledge and empirical, experimental education needed by biotechnology companies. Students are instructed to design their career from earlier on through the lifelong instruction and education system and major-specialized CDR (Career Development Roadmaps) from their enrollment, and are given systematic, customized career instruction through the career exploration curriculum such as biotechnology design, major and employment, major and startup, etc. Students’ careers after graduating from the College of Biotechnology are largely divided into: 1) National and public research institutes, 2) Biomedical and medicinal industry and company-affiliated research institutes, 3) Bio information and diagnosis medical centers, 4) Entrance into bio, environment, agro-fishery and livestock food-related graduate schools or medical school, and 5) Bio venture companies/startups.

Department of Chemical Energy Engineering

Newly launched in 2017, the Department of Chemical Energy Engineering provides education concerning the overall knowledge and technology of energy conversion and storage based on advanced nano and molecular engineering, aiming to nurture competent human resources who can solve the depletion of global energy, climate change, and environmental problems.

Its curriculum includes Energy Thermodynamics to examine the properties and composition of matters, Catalyst Engineering, Organic and Inorganic Material Chemistry, and Stoichiometry and Statistics as basic courses. The applied subjects of energy engineering include the Department of Energy Chemistry’s energy storage, energy photochemistry, energy environment engineering, energy conversion engineering, and nano engineering. This Department will nurture experts of energy engineering, energy storage and conversion research and developers, and the experts of climate change response in the energy engineering industry which will become the core industry of Korea’s future, contributing to various fields in companies, government agencies, universities, and the national society.

Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science

The chemical engineering and new material science field researches the development of eco-friendly and highly efficient industrial materials and processes. It covers various fields but can be largely divided into inorganic industrial chemistry, organic industrial chemistry, reaction process systems, environment, energy, biochemical engineering, materials, and fine chemistry. Each field of chemical engineering and new material science is becoming an advanced technology field to lead the future-oriented chemistry industry with the development of alternative energy and highly-functional matters that can solve the depletion of natural resources and environmental pollution, either independently or by converging with each other.
