소프트웨어 응용 개발에 있어 데이터베이스는 데이터를 효율적으로 저장, 관리하는데 있어 반드시 필요한 요소이다. 데이터베이스 설계는 데이터 저장, 관리를 위한 물리적인 모형을 구성하고 이를 활용하는 개발을 포함한다. 따라서 본 교과목에서는 관계형 데이터베이스 설계에 관한 이론을 수업하고, 실질적인 활용 능력을 실습을 통해 향상시킨다.

In the development of software application, database is an essential component in storing and managing data efficiently. Database design includes configurating physical model for data storage and management and development using them. Therefore, this lecture deals with theory of relational database design, and then, improves practical ability through practice substantially.
