본 화학공학입문 교과목은 생명화학공학부 1학년 학생들과 화학공학에 관심을 가진 타전공의 학생들을 대상으로 하는 교과목으로서 화학공학을 배우는 학생들이 설계의 개념을 가지고 고학년의 전공 교육과정을 이수할 수 있도록 도와주는 설계 지향적 교육과정의 학부 공통 기초 교과목이다. 이 교과목은 화학공학을 전공하는 1학년생이나 화학공학에 대한 개관을 얻고자 하는 비전공 학생들을 위해, 화학공학이 무엇이며 화학공학에서 가르치는 교과목들은 무엇이 있는지를 알아보고 화학공학자 또는 화공엔지니어들이 정유 및 석유화학에서부터 반도체, 배터리, 바이오화학공학에 이르는 다양한 산업 현장에서 주로 어떤 업무를 수행하는지 그리고 화학공학적인 설계란 무엇인지에 대해 다룬다.

This introductory course in chemical engineering is aimed at first-year students of the Division of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and . It is a basic course of design-oriented curriculum that helps students learning chemical engineering to complete the major curriculum of the senior years with the concept of design. For first-year students majoring in chemical engineering or for non-major students who want to gain an overview of chemical engineering, this course offers introductory explanation on what chemical engineering is, what subjects are taught in chemical engineering, and what kind of work chemical engineers mainly perform in the fields ranging from oil refinery and petrochemical engineering to semiconductor, battery, and biochemical engineering. It also covers what chemical engineering design is.
