경제지리학은 인간의 생계활동에 관한 지리학의 한 분야로서 그러한 활동의 입지패턴을 파악하고 그 형성요인과 과정을 밝히고자 한다. 본 강좌는 경제지리학의 학문적 특성, 연구방법, 연구동향을 알아봄으로써 그 학문적 위상을 살펴본다. 현대 경제 공간의 역동성을 파악하기 위해 불균등 발전, 상품 사슬, 기술과 집적, 환경과 경제에 대해 논한다. 그리고 경제 공간의 주체로서 국가, 다국적 기업, 노동력, 소비의 역할을 각각 살펴본다. 끝으로 경제생활의 사회화와 관련하여 국가와 기업은 경제 문화가 있는가, 젠더는 경제생활을 어떻게 구성하는가, 문화가 경제에 미친 영향은 무엇인가 등의 질문에 답한다. 이로써 본 강좌는 현재 경제에 관련 현안들에 대한 지리학적 이해를 돕고 해결방안을 모색하고자 한다.

Economic geography is an academic sub-discipline of geography that deals with spatial patterns and processes of human economic activities. To begin with, we discuss the research history, methodology, contemporary trends of economic geography. The lecture covers not just traditional topics such as capital, labor, resource, agriculture, industry, services but also today's issues like impacts of advanced technology including portation/telecommunication and globalization on the geography of economic activities.
