수도는 그 나라의 정치경제 사회문화의 중심지이다. 과거 동아시아의 수도들은 기본적으로 중국의 수도를 전범으로 삼되 자신들의 고유한 문화적 특징을 살려 건축되었다. 동아시아의 여러 수도의 역사와 문화를 고찰함으로써 동아시아 여러 나라 문화의 공통점과 차이점을 이해할 수 있다.

Capital is the center of a country’s politics, economy, society, and culture. In the past, capitals of East Asia were built according to the paradigms of China’s capital including their unique cultural features. Exploration of the history and culture of the East Asian capitals is the key to understanding the commonalities and the differences of East Asian cultures.
