프랑스는 전통적으로 문학교육을 중시하는 나라이며, 오늘날도 프랑스 대학입학자격시험에서 문학시험은 큰 비중을 차지한다. 이러한 프랑스의 문화적 전통과 교육제도는 다른 나라와 비교할 때 폭넓고 두터운 문학 독자층의 형성 및 문화생활에서 문학이 큰 비중을 차지하는 프랑스 고유의 상황으로 이어진다. 문학이 프랑스 사회의 다양한 문제들에 대한 공론의 장을 제공하는 구체적인 사례들을 영화나 공연 등 다른 문화적 미디어와도 연결하여 학습하면서, 프랑스 문학과 문화의 특수성에 대한 이해를 도모한다.

France is a country with an emphasis on literature education traditionally. Even today, literature is a big part of baccalaureate in France. This cultural tradition and education system in France leads to the situation of France where there is widespread and thick literary readers and literature takes a large part in cultural life compared to other countries. This paper promotes understanding of French literature and distinct characteristics of French culture by learning specific examples of literature which provides a place for public debate about diverse problems in France society with other cultural media such as films and performances.
